Costin Lazar- Mr. Fairplay

How often do you see a player deny a penalty given to them? How often do you see it it the Romanian League? Well Im glad to say I have seen it at least once in my life. And it hapened to be a player from my favorite club in the “so-called” ragged Romanian Liga 1….
In the 63rd minute of the game Rapid-Otelul Galati (FT: 4-0), it was 2-0 for Rapid and Otelul Galati’s Bourceanu had adjudged to have fouled Costin Lazar of Rapid in the box, replay’s showing Bourceanu getting the whole ball.
Lazar’s teammate Juliano Spadacio had this to say:
I wanted to see if Lazar would have done that at 0-0 for us, I wouldnt have recognized it as not a penalty if I were him.
Lazar then saying after the match:
I think its normal that if it is not a penalty for us that we shouldn’t take advantage of these things because we dont want to get helped by anyone.
And then former Rapid Buchatrest and actual coach of Shaktar Donestk, Mircea Lucescu said:
I don’t know about Lazar, but I do know Cornel Dinu who, at 0-0 for his team Dinamo, in the Romanian cup final against Steaua refused a penalty for his side because the referee got it wrong.
While some people doubt him, I praise the young lad, and if more people like Costin Lazar do this extreme act of fairplay, we might just might be able to save whats left of this game that has gone to racism and random acts of violence.

un gest rar intilnit,nu numai in romania.sunt convins ca 99.9% din jucatori nu ar fi refuzat un asemenea cadou.bravo lui,e placut sa descoperi ca,intr-un sport dominat de cinism,exista jucatori cu onoare.imi aduc aminte de un meci romania-bulgaria,in care un jucator roman(am uitat cine anume era)a fost traumat,iar jucatorii bulgari continuau sa joace.in final,un brazilian naturalizat care juca pentru bulgaria a oprit jocul.bunul simt e o raritate printre fotbalisti,in special la cei bulgari.

credit to Costin Lazar (btw: his face looks hilarious from the side:D as if it was chopped with an axe, but nevermind…) for this decision. and credit to the ref for assisting the play, not trying to boss about. I just imagined how mellow all the guys on the pitch must have felt after all this, the game must have been a real pleasure for them, knowing that the opponent knows what sport is all about.
